Child/Dependent Care Grants


All conference attendees are eligible to apply for a grant to cover child- or dependent-care costs incurred due to meeting attendance.

Grants of up to $250 per family are available for conference attendees who will incur extra expenses for child/dependent care during the meeting or by bringing child/dependent to the meeting.

If requests exceed available funding, preference will be given to early career researchers who are presenting at the meeting.  

How To Apply

To be considered for a child/dependent care grant, please complete the application form by the deadline (######).

  • Feb 4, 2023: Application opens.
  • Apr 30, 2023: Application deadline.
  • May 1, 2023:  Application decision. The organizers will contact successful applicants by email.

Grant Eligibility and General Information
  • Grants may be awarded for childcare, elder care, or other dependent care.
  • Applications are limited to one per household.
  • Awards will be paid out via reimbursement after the meeting. Receipts will be required to process reimbursement.

Funds may be used for:
  • On-site childcare*
  • Extra child/dependent care expenses at home incurred due to meeting attendance
  • Travel for a caregiver to the meeting
  • Travel for a caregiver to your home
  • Travel for your child/dependent to the meeting
  • Travel for your child/dependent from home to a caregiver
  • Other scenarios on a case-by-case basis

*The Molecular Biosystems Conference does not provide or recommend caregiving providers and does not assume responsibility or liability for caregiving services of any sort. It is the responsibility of the parent(s) or guardian(s) to thoroughly investigate all caregiving providers

Fund may NOT be used for:
  • Regular home-based child/dependent care expenses (expenses that would have been nevertheless incurred had the applicant not attended the meeting);
  • Travel or other expenses related to attendees participation in the meeting such as, meeting registration, meals, housing, transportation costs, or other expenses the attendee would already be incurring by attending the meeting;
  • Tickets for entertainment (parks, museums, etc);
  • Toys; and,
  • Meals/Snacks

Policies and Procedures
  • Reimbursements are distributed after the meeting. A reimbursement system allows us to provide the most aid possible to the most awardees by covering actual costs instead of projected costs.
  • Each recipient receiving a grant will need to submit fill out a reimbursement form and send it, along with receipts, to the conference email account (molbiosystems [at] gmail [dot] com), detailing the incurred expenses and the amount requested for reimbursement. 
  • Reimbursements are not distributed before the meeting or onsite at the meeting.
  • Reimbursement is paid in US dollars via a check mailed to the address provided on the reimbursement form. Bank transfer can be arranged by contacting the organizers, but any associated fees will be responsibility of the awardee. 
  • Reimbursement checks will be made payable to the individual grant recipient.


Application of Misrepresentation
The Molecular Biosystems Conference reserves the right to deny funds to applicants who misrepresent their funding needs.
 

Changes in Circumstances
If, between the time of submitting your application and the dates of the meeting, your needs for the grant changes, you must contact the organizers. You will be informed if you are still eligible for funding.
